Email Blasts: What are they & How to Use Them to Get More Leads!

Do you know anyone who doesn’t have an email address? Probably not, considering more than 4 billion people worldwide use email. Yup, it’s that popular.

And, this popularity is what makes email blasts an incredibly reliable, affordable, and efficient way to reach prospects – regardless of their position in the customer journey.

Whether you’re a marketing rock star or a total newbie, you certainly know that the upside of email blasts is too compelling to ignore. After all, email is the king of ROI that generates a profit of $38 for every $1 you spend.

Even millennials, who kind of have a reputation for disliking emails, consider email as their preferred commercial communication channel

But, email blasts are a complicated beast. They can be one of the biggest drivers of your sales, but they can also make your prospects unsubscribe, or worse, mark you as spam.

If you use email blasts incorrectly, you’ll just be another cog in the wheel of content no one wants to read – which is honestly a waste of time and opportunity.

Your email should make readers stop scrolling through their packed inbox and actually want to read more. To make sure that happens, let’s understand the nitty-gritty of email blasts and how to use them the right way.

What are Email Blasts, Anyway?

First things first, let’s define the term.

Think of an email blast like a TV advertisement. If you’ve subscribed to the cable, you’ll most likely see the ad. Similarly, if you’re on the email list, you’ll get the email blast.

Neither tv advertisements nor email blasts put much emphasis on specific demographics. Their main goal is to get the message to as many people as possible – all at the same time.

In a nutshell, an email blast is simply a single marketing email that goes out to multiple people at once. This is usually an entire email list or even multiple email lists.

Whether you want to get the word out about a great new product, flash sales, holiday sales, or a special promotion – an email blast is literally the perfect choice.

Why? Because since an email blast is generally sent to an entire email list, you can be sure that your audience will hear about it. The more people that see it, the greater the chances of conversion!

However, all this is obviously dependent on the email blast being done properly.

See, when your audience chooses to receive emails from you, they permit you to reach out to them consistently. That’s a big, big deal.

But, they can also take away this permission if you keep clogging their inboxes with content that’s not useful, engaging, or relevant at all.

So how do you create email blasts that people 1) pay attention to and, 2) actually enjoy? Let’s find out!

6 Things to Keep in Mind While Sending Email Blasts

1. Strike The Right Tone

It might seem obvious, but you need to write to your target audience.

Emotions sell when it comes to email blasts or any other form of marketing. The more you connect on a personal level, the better your emails are going to be.

So, before you start composing your email blast, think about the concerns, hopes, frustrations, and interests of the people who will be reading that email.

Then, talk to them about those things and how your product or service can help them. Make the email helpful, relevant, and something your audience would thank you for!

Because if your email solely focuses on you, your product, and its benefits, subscribers will end up losing their appetite for opening future emails. It’s as simple as that.

2. Nail the Subject Line

This is a very basic tip, but we’ve to put it out there because it’s so important.

Your subscribers have thousands of other things vying for their attention. You don’t have much time to make them pay attention to your email and convince them that it is worth opening in the first place.

If your subject line doesn’t pique your recipients’ curiosity among the other emails in their inbox, they’ll most likely delete it. So try to write catchy and clever subject lines!

Important: Give the reader a reason to open your email, but don’t be misleading! No one likes clickbait, and it’ll probably end up doing more harm than good.

3. Keep it Short & Sweet

Think about your own email inbox.

Do you read lengthy emails? Probably not. So, keep your email brief, concise, and written like a human.

Honestly, nothing is worse than opening an email and having to fish around paragraphs of utter nonsense to actually get to the main point of the email.

The briefer your message, the better your response rate will be!

4. Add a Call to Action

Every email is incomplete without a powerful call-to-action, aka CTA.

Do you want people to follow you on Instagram? Do you want them to reserve their spot for your next webinar? Do you want them to download your eBook? Whatever your goal is, make it very clear in your CTA.

Your CTA is the most important ingredient of your email blasts because, without it, you won’t get any conversions – and that’s the entire point of creating an email blast.

But try not to convolute your email with more than one CTA. It’s tempting, but it won’t have the effect you’re hoping for, as you won’t be able to point the recipient exactly where you want them to be!

5. Get the Timing & Frequency Right

What is the best day and time to send an email blast?

There’s no right or wrong answer to this question. The timing entirely depends on your subscribers, and you need to figure out what works best for them.

If you’re just starting out, you can set a schedule and stick to it. See how your content is performing, use the data and keep making changes until you find the sweet spot.

Talking about frequency, email blasts need a delicate balance. Too many email blasts can almost certainly lead to higher unsubscribe rates and more spam designations, while too few can make your business obsolete.

The best way out is to send an email blast at least once per month, but not more than once a week!

6. Build & Segment Your Email List

One of the major reasons email blasts fall through is because most people don’t segment their email list. We don’t want you to make the same mistake.

Not all your customers are going to like the same thing. So rather than “blasting” all of your contacts with the same information, take the time to segment your email list.

Basically, categorize your subscribers into relevant groups. By segmenting your subscribers, you can create campaigns that speak directly to each audience’s wants and needs.

The result? You can increase your chances of delighting, and not annoying your recipients. Always, always remember that you’re dealing with actual humans, and not just a list of email addresses!

Wrapping Up

Email blasts are simply awesome.

They give you the power to target a large number of people quickly and simply. But once you hit the send button, there is no taking it back. It is what it is.

So to avoid bombing your next email blast, just don’t send anything you won’t like to get in your own inbox. When you use this approach for your email blasts, you will get much better results, we promise.
